You may blog on either topic - one per comment. Please write at least five sentences (2 points each) on how you liked the presentation (s). What struck you the most? Did you disagree with anything? What was the "take away" for you?
I enjoyed the presentation. By Generation Life sending someone more in my age group, I felt like I got a better understanding. While listening to the speaker I felt I could relate to most of what they were saying. What struck me the most was what the MTV representative said about how easy it is to control young minds. I was unaware that's what he truly thought. Another thing that struck me the most was the statistic of all the sexual influences we see in one day. No, I didn't disagree with anything, if any, I thought it was extremely informing. The "take away" for me was society sometimes can alter how we view ourselves and make us want to change, when in actuality we're perfect the way we are.
I enjoyed this year's generation life presentation more than I usually do. I thought our speakers this year were enthusiastic and energetic - they put the group's message in relevant terms and helped us understand what they were talking about. I liked the segment where we took apart song lyrics to see what the artists were really trying to say. Some of the quotes were more ridiculous than I ever thought they could be! My "take away" is to actually process the world around you, rather than accepting everything as if you were being spoonfed.
The Generation Life presentation was nice. What struck me the most was how little the presentation has changed since the first time I saw it years ago. There was updated songs and pictures but basically the same message. Generation Life has not changed its Pro Life message. I agreed with a lot of things Steph said. What I took away from it was how the media does not care about the viewers well being and how they try to suck you in. PS: I like the song No Hands still.
It surprised me when I walked out of the Generation Life presentation feeling informed and inspired. What struck me most was the way Stephanie presented the wants of girls. To put it in such a straight-forward manner, that girls want to be loved and want to feel beautiful, really touched me. Surprisingly, I didn't disagree with anything that the speakers had to say. The take away for me was to try and find the beauty in everyone.
I love when Generation Life comes in and speaks to us. I really enjoyed their presentation to our class; it was really inspiring. What struck me most was that we really are beautiful, and everything on televison shows truly affects our lives. I never realized it as much until we were told that the creator of MTV thinks he owns us once he gets our emotions running; I thought that was ridiculous. It was great having Stephanie and Mike talk to us- since they're only a few years older we could relate to them on a different level than adults. What I took away from this was to be more aware of what influences us and to remain true to ourselves no matter what sexual images are on TV, and to remember that everyone is beautiful. regardless of what people look like in the media. That "media beauty" is fake; our natural beauty is prettier than any of that.
I thought that the Generation Life speakers were very upbeat and influential. I enjoyed that they were personal and talked with enthusiasm about such an important topic. They taught me that we are all important and created beautiful by God, and that no matter what we are individuals who can make our own positive choices. It was interesting to hear college students talk about how they feel about chastity, because it was easier to relate to them and I learned a lot from them. What struck me the most was that the two speakers were both enthusiastic about Generation Life and they really seemed to care about us being the best individuals we can be. I did not disagree with anything they said. The “take away” for me is that it is not hard to make my own choices based on right judgement, and that considering God when I make decisions will help me to be a better person.
I liked the presentation. Our presentor, Stephanie was very relatable in the way that she spoke to us not at us. The MTV quote about how they own every teenager by pumping up their emotions struck me the most because that's messed up. I disagreed with the point that they both made about how the womans main desires are to be loved and be told we are beautiful but guys desires are to serve and die for us. I understand that guys need to work for a woman but they took it to the extreme. The main thing I took from the talk was that each woman is beautiful and the media distorts the presence of real beauty
The Generation Life talk that we had in the beginning of this week was inspirational and it taught me that we are all beautiful. God created each one of us in his own image and likeness and we should not change the way we are. The thing that struck me the most was learning how much the media really does affect our generation today. Every single teenager has watched some form of reality TV show and teenagers have seen the covers of magazines, but I never really thought that the images are fake. The two speakers spoke the truth about the world today. Steph and Mike really had me “take away” the idea that we are all beautiful. We can not let the media or any other source bring us down and must live our lives in our own way to be our own person.
Generation life left me with a different impression on the media. I never took into consideration how many teens, even myself, sometimes do base their lives on reality tv shows. Stephanie really stressed the wants of young woman and everything she said was true. Every girl wants to be loved and told they're beautiful but we should also know that we are loved and are beautiful. We do not need a man to tell us so.
I thought this year's generation life presentation was the best yet. Stephanie's energetic approach got me engaged in the presentation and made it easier to accept and understand. They played many of the songs I often hear on the radio while the lyrics were on the screen. They explained the lyrics and expressed the negative effects they have on our mindset, helping me to realize the message they were trying to preach. I took away the message: know who I am and have self-respect so the media wont effect my point of view of myself or others.
Generation Life! opened my eyes to the idea that we as young woman are looked at as "physical" objects and that we are not ment to be loved, cherished, and most importantly RESPECTED. The media is constantly spreading this "virus" (message) that this is OK but its not. Steph and Mike did an awesome job in explaining how this idea has come about. Honestly, I was really paying attention and I was glad that they were creative with their presentation. It was definitely entertaining and far from boring which I think is a main quality for a good presentation. Fun and creative, but still maintaining the visual point!
I really enjoyed both presentions but I feel that I got more out of Generation Life. By sending people not much older than myself I could relate to them more. I learned the truth behind many models and why they look so perfect. It helped me to realize that they are just like me and have their flaws aswell. Reading the comment from the producer of mtv troubled me bacause I could see how true it was. My "take away" was that there are consequences to all actions even if they aren't shown on television and how the media lies to us on a daily basis.
Although I wasn't in school to be apart of the Generation Life class this year, I always enjoy and take away knowledge from their visits. My favorite part of every year is when the speaker tells us a personal story of their own, whether about a struggle they went through or a feat they conqured. It's always refreshing to see people choosing to live their lives the way they want and not letting others influence them to doing things which they don't actually want to do. The speaker last year had an inspiring story that really stuck with me. She was a bad teen, involving herself with many things which she knew she wouldn't and not thinking anything of it. Over time, she matured and realized that the life she was living was not the life she wanted for herself. Although it was hard and she had many factors working against her, she managed to turn her life completely around and for the better. From GenLife I usually take away a sense of self-pride and respect for not only myself, but the people around me. You can never be sure what struggles someone is dealing with in their lives, and God should be the only judge we have.
The generation life presentation, on Thursday, was very informatiive. I learned about the big influence of media on todays youth. Girls and women and constantly being told that have to be skinnier, fatter, taller, shorter, more provoative, less wild ect. the creater of MTV was quaoted saying: "The strongest appeal you can make is emotionally. If you can get their emotions going, make them forget their logic, you've got them. AT MTV, WE DON'T SHOOT FOR THE 14-YEAR OLDS, WE OWN THEM". Steph and Mike told us that it is important to decifer the truths of media, an dthat we dont, necissairly have to sit in a box and never watch tv. “All girls are beautiful” –Steph. What a bold statement to say that everysingle girl is beautiful. But its true everyone of us is beautiful is our won special way. That is what I tool for the Generation Life speakers.
i was very excited to hear that Gen life was speaking with us on Wednesday, last year they told us that our senior year Gen life meeting was a good one! And it was, they taught us that we should want to wait for men to fight for us and if not then not to waist our time. Also, i liked how they talked about the media and how it affects our life. One way is that our media downgrades us at least 40 times a day, i've never noticed that before. Mike and Stephanie did a great job, after seeing their presentation, i notice things alittle more than before.
The Generation Life presentation was so inspiring. It showed me that every person should have much more confidence than they actually have. I was really shocked when Steph talked about how our generation today uses so much photoshop to make someone flawless and more beautiful. Truth is, that we are all beautiful in different ways and that we are not made to be perfect or flawless. Today’s generation kills a person’s soul because women and men feel like they are not good enough in the world today and that causes a person to do many things to their bodies to make them selves “perfect.” I agreed with everything Steph and Mike said, they were excellent for high school seniors because they were young like us. What I took in from this presentation is what older people think they can do to our generation. The MTV producer talked so wrongly about our generation saying they can control us and it is sad because it is true.
The Generation Life presentation was really informative. This presentation demonstrated how media has a big impact on our teenage lives. Stephanie, the speaker related to us females in the class strongly; she was also a young lady. I liked the presentation because it illustrated how teenagers mostly just like a song because of the beat. Majority of our teenage communities, only listens to a song because the beat or rhythm was "catchy", instead of really listening and understanding the lyrics. Sometimes, as young people we are led away easily without doubt with simple distractions such as songs promoting sexual desires. All the videos were filled with lyrics of how artists degrades the true meaning of love and care of women. I was astonished at MTV's producer/owner comment. As a businessman he rudely classified young people as naive. He always bashed out on his own customers, the viewers who actually makes him money. It is horrible how pathetic people think of the influences they place in our lives. I highly agreed with this presentation because it not only touched on our daily routine life but reality. Youth is influence so easily nowadays, by our surroundings it is better when it's positive. MTV promotes a lot of inappropriate but unusually fun shows that we acceptingly enjoy. Generation Life made a good decision with having young people as representatives visiting our high schools; we become more interested and understandable. My 'take away' is how society does not notice the real issues in life.
The Geration life presentation hit me right at heart. I loved how throughout the entire presintation the main focus was that we are all beautiful inside and out. Although we may not like our appearance, God has a plan for us and made us all in his image and likeness. I appreciate the thoughts they put in my mind and widened my veiw of self respect for myself. They also expressed the choice to be chaste untill marriage. I know God has always told us to do this, but hearing it from someone close to my age helps me understand the importance of following God path for me in life. I respect every choice they made and hope to follow in their footsteps and find the one true love God has set for me.
Generation life was AMAZING! They kept us interested by using pictures and music that we listen to every day and explaining how it is degrading to us women. Steph explained what true love really is and how God wants us to be able to find and experience it. She also explained how we do not need to feel beautiful and loved through having sex. She told us that we were all BEAUTIFUL and did not need to compare ourselves to famous people (who are fake!!). We learned that desires are natural and normal but they can be controlled and guys fall in love with girls who can respect themselves and their desires. This talk had a huge impact on me and the way i view myself and my peers. We all deserve love and respect !
The presentation for Generation Life opened my eyes. Since both of the presenters were around our age they know what we go through in this day and age and how hard it is. What struck me the most was how they showed the class things from MTV and how songs that we listen to and tv shows that we watch everyday degrade how humans should act. I never realized any of that until the presentation they gave us.
I really liked the presentation that generation life gave. I thought the talk was truly inspired. The way they related everything to our everyday lives and surroundings. They showed how the media effects our decisions and how they control us by getting our emotions pumping. I like the relation of the hurtful things the media says and eating traash are alike. The things they said about facebook and how it can tear down our self esteem really shocked me.
I enjoyed the Generation Life presentation a lot. The speakers were entertaining and they kept me interested. I liked that they were younger, they could relate to us more. What struck me the most is how much the media really does affect our views and perception of ourselves and views. I don't think I disagreed with anything they said really. My "take away" from this is to have a positive outlook on things and believe in myself and God.
i really love when generation life visits our schools. ever since freshman year gen life has been teaching me and young kids and teens everywhere to have respect for themselves, others, and especially God. they helped me to understand about the boundries that we set for ourselves and to watch out for others also. i've learned to be discerning towards the media.
The presentation that I am going to reflect on for the blog is The Generation Life talk. From this I learned how important it is to realize how special we truly are. The video that was presented showing the woman before her photoshoot on the billboard made me realize how much work they put into her hair and makeup. Truly we are all beautiful and are loved without it. We do not have to be perfect to have these two things (beautiful and loved). Us young women should not give in and find that one guy if marriage is the road we are chosing to take. We need to save ourselves and be respectful to our bodies. The guy is to fight and serve for us. I have to say that I did not disagree with anything in the discussion. What struck me the most was while Steph and Mike played the tunes common to our generation from Katy Perry- California Girls to Waka Flocka- No Hands. If you listen to the words without the beat they are really disrespectful. The quotes shown on the screen from Lady Gaga and the producer on MTV really bothered me. MTV shows that are played may seem fun but really behind the scenes it may not be as great as what it looks to be: example- Jersey Shore after the show they are given herpies medicine and take it “like it’s candy”. Further thoughts that I have on the topic is that it is important for everyone to realize just because your friends are doing something or your classmates doesn’t mean you have to too or need to tag along. The “take away” for me that I recieved from Generation Life speakers Steph and Mike is to watch the music the music I listen to and I am worth more than what MTV tries making us young adults out to be.
I enjoyed the presentation by the Generation Life speakers. I felt that the speakers understood what the life of a teenager was like since they were young themselves. It was nice to see that they were there to show and tell us that we are all beautiful and that we deserve real men that will fight and serve for us. I knew that our society was based on the media, but I did not realize that the media could actually control us. I was surprised and disgusted by this because I myself do not want to be a puppet. As young women I feel that we should find real women to look to as role models, instead of those who the media tells us to respect or those that make themselves up that they are not themselves anymore. The true role model that we should respect and strive to be should be one that respects herself and can wait for a real man to come and show that she deserves the special treatment. We should all be respectful of ourselves because we are all beautiful.
The Generation Life presentation was great to say the least. The speakers, Steph and Mike, were young, like us, which made them so easy to relate with. They used real life situations and examples like song lyrics, quotes, and statistics, which painted a clear picture of what our media truly is at its core. What struck me the most was the video they showed us of how edited pictures are to make people and things seem perfect, as well as quoting the producer of MTV. I have to say that I did not disagree with anything Steph and Mike told us. Their words were both true and inspiring and challenged me even more so to live by God's plan. I took away a lot from the Generation Life presentation. I learned to be more cautious and discerning towards the media but most importantly, and what goes hand in hand with everything I have ever learned, is that every single one of us is beautiful. We cannot let the media define what beauty means.
The Generation Life talk this year really inspired me. It helped me to realize that everyone truly is beautiful and to not let anyone or anything bring you down. The speakers were very informative and furthered my knowledge about the media and how it affects us. Both speakers made me feel good about myself and helped to build up my self esteem. I did not diagree on anything Stephanie and Michael told us. I feel as if all of their information they shared with us was very helpful and they were honest with us. I took many things away from this presentation, i learned to not worry about what the media portrays of girls and to know that God made each and every one of us in a special way.
I enjoyed the presentation. By Generation Life sending someone more in my age group, I felt like I got a better understanding. While listening to the speaker I felt I could relate to most of what they were saying. What struck me the most was what the MTV representative said about how easy it is to control young minds. The “take away” for me that I recieved from Generation Life speakers Steph and Mike is to watch the music the music I listen to and I am worth more than what MTV tries making us young adults out to be.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the presentation by the Generation Life speakers.
ReplyDeleteThe Generation Life presentation was great to say the least.
ReplyDeleteThe Generation Life talk this year really inspired me.
