Thursday's assembly was a wonderful experience. While talking about issues like mental health and depression can be upsetting to some people, it is extremely important to always push for these topics to be talked about in the open. Having a problem with your state of mind is never something to be ashamed of. Francesca herself seemed to be a very sweet and caring person, and an ideal speaker on behalf of the "Minding Your Mind" team. I hope that the school will continue to invite this group back to our premises for years to come!
I thought the Minding Your Mind assembly was enlightening. While it was clearly difficult for Francesca to share her story with us, it was incredibly helpful. I was reassured in the assembly that having mental health issues does not make you crazy or weird it only makes you different which is important to know. Having assemblies such as the Minding Your Mind one help to make topics such as depression more open for discussion which is important. I thouroughly enjoyed the presentation and found it helpful. I hope they invited them to speak again because this is an important message that needs to be spread!
ReplyDeleteMinding Your Mind this year was different than last year's, but our new speaker, Francesca, was just as interesting and enjoyable as last year's speaker, Melissa. I thought it was brave of Francesca to share with us such personal information. By doing so she made me realize the importance of noticing the mental health of myself and those around me. She taught that one should never be ashamed of mental disease and that it can be overcome. It is also extremely important to look out for your friends. If you think they may have a problem you must tell an adult, even if your friend protests. Once again, the Minding Your Mind assembly was informative and actually kept me awake.
ReplyDeleteI really was not looking forward to the presentation this year, honestly. I thought it was going to be the exact same as last year's, which really didn't catch my attention. However this year Francesca was so interesting to listen to and held everyone's attention throughtout the entire assembly. I think she is so brave and admirable for speaking about all of her issues, especially since she still struggles today. I believe it is important for us to have these assemblies because not everyone knows how they can turn to others for help before its too late. Most are too afraid to speak, and people like Francesca make it possible for those struggling with mental illnesses like depression or anxiety to know that they can get help easily. I think teenagers are sometimes too afraid to speak, and this assembly truly kept our eyes open to know that there is help available. It also shocked me of how many celebrities deal with mental illnesses, but it just goes to show we all need help. We all struggle. No one is perfect.
